Essential Functions
- Desire and ability to teach specialty instrument to campers of all ages and abilities
- Strong sight-reading skills
- Willingness to perform in staff concerts and supplement where necessary in student groups
- Good character, integrity and ability to adapt
- Masters degree desired, teaching experience required
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
Responsible to
- Respective department head
General Responsibility
- To be primarily concerned with the health, safety and general welfare of the campers.
Specific Responsibilities
- To attend pre-camp orientation meetings
- To have teaching or administrative responsibilities on average 5–6 hours each class day
- To give each assigned student a mini lesson on the first day of each session. The purpose of the mini lesson is to assess goals for the period of time the camper is at camp and to place them in ensembles
- To attend department meetings as scheduled
- To encourage and prepare students to perform a solo or duet in a camper concert
- To assist campers in their preparation of ensemble music
- To coach small ensemble rehearsals
- To prepare campers for solo performances on Parents' Day when applicable
- To be available on Parents' Days to speak with parents about the progress of their child
- To assist the conductors with sectionals as necessary
- To participate in staff ensembles and perform in staff concerts
- To teach musicianship
- To arrive on time and prepared for each lesson and class
- To assist with travel arrangements at the end of each session
- To write a relevant, coherent, legible evaluation of each private student at the end of the session
Essential Functions
- The visual, auditory, and cognitive abilities required to assess campers' playing and the ability to communicate constructive suggestions
