Ensemble Placement Recording
In order to be able to place our campers in ensembles of an appropriate level, we are asking everyone to send one short video recording, not later than June 1st, containing the following:
1) 1 minute of a slow piece that shows off your tone and phrasing
2) 1 minute of a medium speed or fast piece or etude that highlights your technique
3) Up to 4 major or minor scales that demonstrate your range.
Don't worry if the nature of your instrument or your experience so far precludes you from adhering to the specifics requested above. Just do the best you can to give us an idea of what you are currently doing on your instrument, or with your voice.
You do not need fancy equipment for this; you can make the recording directly on your phone. It is very helpful if you can put the phone on something to hold it steady, and make the recording in a well lit space, quiet space. Please record everything you are going to play into one video with one link. Please do not sent multiple video links.
These recordings will be used for placement in large as well as small ensembles, so we would like to have recordings from pianists who are electing chamber music, along with everyone else participating in any ensemble.
When you are done, please upload your video to one of the common streaming platforms, such as Youtube, Vimeo or so many others, and mail the link for the recording to Jamie (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please do this before June 1st. Please do NOT send the video directly in an email because those large video files completely clog up our email connection. This is particularly true once we are at camp, where our internet connection is quite slow. Please record everything you are going to play into one video with one link. Please do not sent multiple video links.
If you have recently submitted a recording as a part of the enrollment process, you may elect to use that recording for ensemble placement. In this event, please let Jamie know you are doing that.
Many thanks, and please feel free to email Jamie with any questions.
