SELECTED COMMENTS FROM SUMMER 2002

Dear Jamie,

Thanks for another awesome summer…I have been looking forward to getting my yearbook since camp ended (though I wish very much that it hadn't ended) because last years was very good.
Camp was extremely cool this year. I miss it very much. Every morning I wake up and wish (so, so, so much) to be back in the nice Maine air hearing Mr. Littlefield practicing flute down the hill, Anthony practicing clarinet over someplace and Dan practicing horn over in Beach and knowing that I will never hear Kenagy practicing in the morning because he never got to breakfast before 2 minutes until the end (but that was good anyway). Ah, those were indeed the days. I also miss the coolness of all of the classes. You can't find a camp anyplace else that has classes that are all great. I mean, every single class I ever took at Encore-Coda was awesome… You also could never find a camp with such awesome, cool, amazing, wonderful...people.
Juilliard is going well this year. Mr. Mensch is fine. Our orchestra is magnificent. We'll be playing at Alice Tully Hall in December (if you'd like a copy of the recording of the concert, I'll send you one because I think you'd enjoy it a lot)…

Yours Truly,
(camper from New York City)

Jamie-

I just got home from camp a few hours ago and would like to say that these past 3 1/2 weeks have been the best summer I have ever had in my life. It was more than I ever expected to have and I already miss it horribly. I spent this last couple of days trying to find a minute to talk to you but I never managed to, unfortunately. I wanted to talk to you about coming back next summer. I really really really REALLY want to come back, whatever way is possible…I've become so attached to Encore/Coda…I think that I would really enjoy being a CIT (provided I'm recommended and invited back as one and all, of course). I've actually worked with younger girls a lot in my 11 years of girl scouting...

Thank you so much!

Dear Jamie & Ellen,

Peter had a wonderful time at Camp Encore/Coda again this summer. Thank you so much for making it possible. There wasn't anything he didn't love. He was eager to play in the orchestra (senior) & his chamber group. Planned feverishly for the skit night. His cabin won the lip-synching - he was psyched! He was so happy to have a fun role in "How To Succeed In Business" and plans to try out for the musical at school next spring. The jazz choir was fun and he loved the songs.

Again thank you, thank you.

Dear Jamie & Ellen,

We just wanted to thank you for providing Erin with such a wonderful camp experience. Parent's day was great and we wanted to meet you but Erin was so busy talking about camp and showing us around that we never got the time. I guess her first words to us when she saw us sum up her feelings. The were when you sing me up next year, if you do it early, there is an early bird special…full session would be nice…

Thank you, thank you,
(parent from Longmeadow, MA )

Dear Jamie & Ellen,

Laurel has never enjoyed herself at camp as she did at Encore/Coda. The experiences there planted seeds of confidence in her artistic self so much so that without any hesitation she will audition for the lead female vocal part (Audrey) in "Little Shop of Horrors", this year's school play. Thanks again for the inspiration she was given. In her words, everyone there was "awesome".

Sincerely,
(parent from Brooklyn, NY)

Dear Jamie and Ellen,

Thank you so much for having me as your guest at camp! It was great to see everybody. It seems as though you have hired another wonderful staff for another grand summer of beautiful music and fun! I miss you very much and wish I could be there with you!

Love always,

Dear Jamie and Ellen,

I just wanted to thank you for allowing me to come up and visit camp. As soon as I stepped out of the car and heard the music wafting through the air, I just felt so at home and so happy. During the school year, Katie and I used to wonder what it was about Encore/Coda that made it so magical. Coming back, I realized that a certain happiness envelopes the place. Even though the people may change or grow older (it was a bit of a shock to see Rachel as a counselor, since I was once her CIT!), camp itself never changes. It was wonderful to realize that, as many great memories as I have, so many campers and counselors are in the process of creating their own memories in the same fabulous environment.

Thanks again,
(camper & staff alumnus from Ledgewood, NJ)

Dear Jamie,

It has been a long time since I have seen you or Camp Encore-Coda. I went to a reunion many years ago, but I have been missing the crisp morning air and the dew in the grass and the smell of pines as I walk to the Dining Hall… I did some serious growing up at Encore/Coda. When I was a kid I really discovered myself socially and musically in the structure you provided. As a counselor, I always found myself working there in the summers where I was in transition. … I gravitated to Encore/Coda because I felt safe within the boundaries and structure of camp… You and your camp have everything to do with my personal and professional happiness. I don't think I could hope to ever repay your father, your mother, or you, for the gift you have given me…

All the best,
(camper & staff alumnus from Brooklyn, NY)

Dear Jamie & Ellen,

Thank you so much for your support and tremendous efforts to make this past summer such a success in every regard! I absolutely loved my students and, as usual, the faculty and staff were an excellent team. The Deertrees concert and , of course, the Gazebo were a great addition to the summer and I hope this tradition is here to stay… The community loved the performance and is eager to hear us play more often… I do hope you all have made a smooth and comfortable transition into the "school year - other reality" and that all is going well…

Thank you again,

Dear Jamie and Ellen:

Greetings… How are all doing? First and foremost, I wanted to thank you deeply for this amAzing summer. Coming back to camp just affirmed the feelings I had last year, it indeed is a place where everybody learns something having a great time! I got to appreciate working with kids a lot this summer, and I hope that they too had a good time while I taught. And of course the kids in my cabin were also a nice and crazy bunch of people to live with, both sessions! Thank you for all the trust and support you put on me this summer, and thank you for letting me be part of the Encore-Coda experience…I hope you are enjoying the rest of the summer, OooOh! Maine!

Best wishes for this year,
(staff member from Yipsilanti, MI)
