SELECTED COMMENTS FROM SUMMER 2001

Dear Jamie & Ellen,

I attended Encore/Coda this summer and had the best time of my life! I'm a 12 yr old Bass player and I took lessons from Chris Marolf, the best teacher ever, and did orchestra and even learned how to play Jazz. In fact, I loved this camp so much I intend to return next summer with my older sister.
I have a friend who is a Trombone player. I've recommended Encore/Coda to her, and she's considering going. I was wondering if you could send me, at any time before next summer, that Encore/Coda video so that I'd be able to lend it to her. I received one before last summer, but my mother threw it away, and it's a good way to remember camp. I'd really appreciate it if you could try to accommodate this.

See you next year!
(camper from Nyack, NY)

Dear Jamie and Ellen,

Thank you so much for everything you have done. My mom is thinking of having me stay the whole summer next year but we're not sure yet. I've learned so much these past weeks so I'll probably come back. But anyway I just wanted to thank you for making these past weeks so enjoyable…

Thank you,
(camper from Morristown, NJ)

Dear Jamie and Ellen,

I just wanted to send you a quick thank you for taking such good care of Josh this summer. He had a great time at camp. He seems to have enjoyed every aspect of the experience. Musically, he is much improved. His trumpet teacher has bumped him up to a high school book to accommodate his new abilities. He is not only playing better, but seems to have a better understanding about how to improve his sound. He is feeling very confident and has decided to challenge for 1st chair in his symphonic band at school. Socially, camp was also a fabulous experience for him. We have heard wonderful stories about his counselors and his cabin mates. He seems also to have done some very positive growing up while he was away. As much as we missed him at home, his experience at Encore seems to have benefited him tremendously. He is already talking about coming back next year, and he has been so enthusiastic that his younger sister is talking about it as well! Thank you again for providing our son with such a positive experience.

Sincerely,
(parent from Dallas, TX)

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Saltman,

Annie thoroughly enjoyed her session at Encore/Coda, and as parents we're thoroughly impressed! It is wonderful to stroll the lovely grounds and hear marvelous music wafting through the woods. Best of all is the atmosphere of excellence combined with friendly fun and kindness. We have had daughters in camps in all kinds of places for many years, and this is the first time we have encountered such emotional serenity in tandem with energized activity; clearly the result of enlightened guidance! There seems also to be a healthy amount of autonomy, which is terrific for these often over-scheduled kids.
The summer was a serendipitous surprise for us. Annie found Encore/Coda on the Internet, and we discovered the neighbor for whom she baby-sits went to camp there with his brother. Just last week, a music educator friend form the Boston area was visiting. When I mentioned you r camp, she said "Oh, of course! That's the best music camp in the northeast!" In our New York ignorance we found our way to the perfect place!
Annie's counselors, Janice and Sarah, were absolutely splendid, as were her teachers. Please give them a round of applause from the Lewine family. Annie's looking forward to next summer already!

Best Wishes,
(parent from New York City)

Dear Jamie & Ellen,

Hello! I hope everything is well with you and your family. .. I'm starting to work my way back into school life, but my dorm room here is still covered in pictures of the campers and counselors from Encore/Coda.
I just wanted to thank you for giving me the opportunity to have such an incredible summer! I greatly enjoyed working with all the campers, especially the girls in my cabin, and feeling that I made a difference in their lives at least for a few short weeks. Although it was hard work, I can't begin to tell you how rewarding and enjoyable it was for me to be able to dedicate myself to music and helping others with music.... I especially enjoyed the opportunity to help with theater and accompanying for so many different instruments and voices!
Thank you once again, and I hope you have a great year!

Yours,

Dear Ellen & Jamie,

I just wanted to write you a note to tell you what a wonderful time I have had working with both of you this summer. I came here hoping to find myself in a creative environment where I could gain experience teaching as well as meet a number of individuals who were involved with music as well. The summer surpassed my expectations. I feel that this camp is a nurturing environment for kids to practice their art. I don't know - but I think I probably had as much fun - if not more - than the campers. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work on your staff and explore my teaching for the first time!
